Food for Thought

The amount of people who are suffering with low energy and chronic fatigue which, can also affect their emotions and state of mind, is quite disconcerting. Many are feeling quite blocked physically, mentally, emotionally and psychically. Our cells in our bodies are constantly being renewed time and time again, so it makes a great deal of sense that 'we are what we eat'. We take food into our bodies that actually become part of who we are.

Awareness is growing about the nutritional value of food. With increasing digestive and bowel problems, food allergies and intolerances becoming more widespread, it can make you wonder what is good to eat. Many foods in supermarkets are packaged, tinned, bottled, boxed, frozen or sealed in a 'protected atmosphere' (meaning that gases have been added to prevent deterioration), add to this the pesticides and growth hormones, lack of any freshness or life-force, vitamin loss through cooking etc. and it is a small miracle people function at all, albeit not very well.

Spiritual, magickal and religious pathways have always known the importance of food. Bread & wine being a prime example of honouring the Divine in religious ritual. Mother Nature has quite often been over-looked in favour of convenience, She is not being honoured or respected as she so deserves to be. She is part of us, and we are a part of her. In times gone by, blessings were placed on the food we ate and gratitude to the Goddess was duly given. Later it was to become the saying of 'Grace'. How many people thank the Higher Power for the food they receive or the magic of creation or growth? Perhaps, not many enough. Ancient cultures quite often had a better relationship with food than most of us today. They would thank the spirit of the animal, vegetable or mineral that they consumed, for offering its life-force so that they may live, and thank the Higher Power, God or Goddess for the gifts they provided. Animals were either kept well and happy or hunted freely in the spirit of the chase. They were honoured as aspects of The Divine.

Nowadays, animals are kept in barbaric conditions, quite often not even ever seeing sunlight and then, to top it all, after the most appalling and miserable short life, are taken and killed in fear. These energies are then ingested by the consumer and make up who they are. If you must eat meat or animal products, please make sure it is organic or free range, it is karmically more correct. Strange to say but, most people would be mortified if their dog or cat was treated in such a manner. We are animals too but, with conscience - we should know better. Please be good to our four legged, feathered and finned brothers and sisters, they deserve to have some happiness too.

Bless your food and it will bless you back! Without further ado, here are some top tips and a few recipes...
